Guidelines

Engineers Canada's national guidelines are based on general guiding principles which are widely supported by its member associations, and are intended primarily to promote and facilitate consistency among the licensing and regulatory practices of the associations. For detailed guidelines and policies related to a specific provincial/territoral association refer to its respective website.

This document was developed in collaboration with the provincial and territorial engineering regulators. It is a guideline, not a regulation. Each provincial and territorial engineering regulator sets their own rules and regulations, which vary from one province or territory to another.
In Canada, professional engineering is regulated under provincial and territorial law by the engineering regulators. Engineers Canada has no authority over the regulators. For the specific rules and regulations that apply to you, please contact the engineering regulator in the province or territory where you plan to work.
