International Committee

International Committee Membership 2011-2012

The International Committee acts as the focal point for Engineers Canada's international activities and work undertaken by committees, volunteers and staff. It allows Engineers Canada to play a more active role in the international arena, which includes negotiating agreements to facilitate greater international mobility for Canadian engineers.

The International Committee keeps the Board of Directors abreast of new opportunities to maintain and/or enhance international mobility for Canadian engineers. It monitors existing mutual recognition agreements that concern partial or full professional practice, such as the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). Mutual recognition agreements promote high international standards for engineering practice, and increase the visibility of Canada's rigorous qualifications, accreditation methods, standards of engineering practice, and licensing system

The Committee is also responsible for monitoring the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Engineer and Engineers Mobility Forum registers, and for coordinating the development of new mutual recognition agreements at the Board of Directors’ request. As part of this work, the Committee may initiate and coordinate research on the registration and licensure systems used in other countries. The Committee also monitors international trade activities to assess their impact on public safety and the Canadian engineering profession.

Mutual recognition agreements also help Engineers Canada's member associations and ordre to evaluate the professional qualifications of foreign engineers seeking professional engineering licensure in Canada.
